Dog Name: Carly Age: 2 Gender: Female Breed: Pitbull mix Weight: 53 lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Selective Cat friendly: Probably not Kid friendly: Older children Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Medium Location: Fostered in Chicago, Illinois. No out of state applicants, please. At the shelter, Miss Carly played dumb to all the shelter volunteers for months. She acted as though she could not learn any commands even sit. The volunteers being complete pushovers gave her treats anyway, and they assumed she was just a real dummy. Carly is not dumb. She played them like fiddles. Once in a home with a mere moderate pushover, suddenly she was trainable. She has mastered sit, stay, shake, spin, down, and she is working on others. Don’t let that fool you though. She is still lazy. She tries to half-ass commands to see if she can get the treats without the full effort. Typical lazy dog antics. When she drops a toy off the couch, she will just stare at you until you retrieve it even if you are on the other side of the room. If you appreciate a scheming, lazy dog, she is it. Carly is a pretty easy dog inside the home. She spends most of her day napping, but she will take breaks to eat and play but mostly eat. She is housetrained, and she does not attempt to chew or destroy items that are not hers. She has not had any issues being left alone during work days free roam, but she also is not adverse to her crate. She will often lay in her crate on her own. She is pretty independent often laying in rooms alone even when someone is home. Even as an independent lady, she still loves human affection though she is sensitive to her back paws being handled. Carly is still young, so she is excitable, which can show itself in mouthiness or jumpiness. She gets especially excited when new people come over including plumbers and repair people. Her feelings towards dogs are less clear. She is reactive on leash, but she has made progress. Due to her mixed signals around dogs, she is also learning how to wear a muzzle to allow us to explore this further. She has not yet tried any off-leash meetings as her heartworm has prevented uncontrolled exercise. Her reactivity will likely be her biggest challenge moving forward.
