Mojo Age: ~1 year Gender: Male Breed: Bullmastiff/Boxer mix Weight: 82lbs Crate trained: Yes Potty trained: Yes Dog friendly: Yes, with proper introductions Cat friendly: Yes Kid friendly: Yes, a better match for kids 8+ in the home Vaccinated: Yes Spayed/Neutered: Yes Heartworm: Negative Microchipped: Yes Energy level: Moderate Mojo is being fostered in Chicago. Mojo is a big ol’ puppy, in all the best ways. He’s got that “Gentle Giant” thing down pat, with some added spunk and a whole lot of comedy. He is the perfect mix of couch potato and world class parkour athlete, and has been an absolute pleasure to live with. If you’ve never seen a 100 pound dog with the zoomies, you are in for a treat! It’s hilarious. Mojo loves to be close to you, and is a champion snuggler, but isn’t a total Velcro dog, and he self-entertains quite well. He has picked up potty training quickly and hasn’t shown a strong inclination to chew on inappropriate items. He has a big love for pulling the stuffing out of plush toys, so I can’t promise he wouldn’t do the same with a fluffy dog bed or throw pillow if left unsupervised with them, though he has been fine with the bed in his crate. Mojo is a total ham. He makes us laugh constantly. His tail never stops wagging, and he’s often sporting his signature grin. He loves to soak up the sunshine and roll in the grass. He’s super food motivated, and playing tug is his #1 thing in the world. Mojo has received training on basic obedience and house manners. He is respectful of doorways and doesn’t dash through them. He knows the cues sit, down, come, with me, leave it, drop it, wait, find it, get it, touch, off, spin, kennel, and place. He has great engagement, learns quickly, and loves to train. He is calm and quiet in his crate and goes in easily. He is happy sleeping in his crate or curled up at your feet in bed. Mojo has integrated very well with the cats and older children in his foster home. He is working through some normal adolescent impulse control stuff, and learning to tolerate frustration a little better. Right now, his biggest challenge is being restricted by a leash. He likely didn’t have any experience walking on a leash in his previous home, so it’s a new skill for him. He isn’t really a puller, but wants to be able to run up to every dog and person he sees, and gets pretty frustrated when he can’t. He needs a bit more practice with walking beside his handler, instead of weaving back and forth in front of them. We are continuing to work on this, and are happy to provide an adopter with support to keep him on the right track. Mojo’s ideal home would be with a family who is committed to continuing his training through positive reinforcement methods. He is a very large, strong, athletic dog, and will need regular exercise and enrichment. With adopters committed to providing for his needs, he could easily thrive in an apartment, but he wouldn’t turn down a house with a yard to romp in! He may do well with another medium to large dog in the home. He seems to have a preference for female dogs, but has also played well with some males. If you have a dog, we will arrange meet and greets to ensure they will be a good match. He does very well with children, but due simply to his size and adolescent antics, I wouldn’t recommend him for a home with children under age 8.
