You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator-Jeanine Daugherty Hal is a one year old neutered, male Malinois who was found hit by a car when he was approximately 8 months old. Hal had obviously been hit very hard by the car as his muzzle was terribly swollen for a very long time. He had a traumatic brain injury, a shattered scapula and a broken pelvis. Hal’s shattered scapula was not something that could be fixed surgically and we had to make the decision whether to amputate that leg or not. We opted to not amputate so that Hal could grow up and regain mobility on 4 legs. He may need that leg amputated later in life if he develops arthritis. While life for Hal started out tough, his luck changed once he was taken to a shelter where a shelter worker called her friend, a veterinarian in Wisconsin. It was quickly arranged that she would foster Hal through the American Belgian Malinois Rescue and get him excellent care at the University of Wisconsin Vet School. Next Hal went to North Carolina to possibly live on a farm with other Malinois and their mom, unfortunately, that is when we found out that Hal does not like other dogs at all and would love to chase all of the other animals on the farm. Hal went through some professional training in North Carolina and that trainer has offered to support Hal’s forever people at no charge. Hal is looking for a very special home. One where he is the only pet and where his family understands that his shattered scapula and brain injury mean he can never go full out like other Malinois. While Hal can get around just fine and does enjoy a game of fetch or tug, his shattered scapula means that care must be taken to not allow him to pound on his front end. He needs to stay at a lower weight to assure that his shoulder does not become painful. Hal loves all people, but he will not be placed in a home with small children due to his shoulder injury and traumatic brain injury. Hal is crate trained, house trained and is working hard at walking nicely on a leash. He is fully vaccinated and heartworm negative. If you would like to be Hal’s forever family, please apply to adopt him at the link below. https://malinoisrescue.org/forms/form?formid=6574 While Hal is currently in North Carolina, reasonable transport can be arranged.
