Sometimes we spend hours thinking of ways to describe our pets when the best description really does come from the foster family! Otto is in a foster home in Memphis, Tn and here are the words of his foster mom.... We loved him from the very beginning. His favorite place on earth is the dog park where he is always the most joyful, energetic ambassador for every new arrival, even the grumpy ones. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body. He took to the crate immediately especially when he figured out that there were treats involved. We dispensed with the crate after the first few days once we knew we could trust him unsupervised. He has learned that in our house dogs are not allowed on the furniture but we do have our suspicions that he curls up on the couch when we aren’t home. He is clever enough to hop down before we are through the door but not so clever as to straighten the cushions. He would love nothing more than to curl up next to you and share your blanket but settles for laying on your feet. He LOVES affection. We have a cantankerous German shepherd and he has managed to wrap her around his little paw with ease. They play non-stop and are quite the duo making our small space very challenging. He is extremely agile and flexible and loves to leap off our back porch in one bound (skipping all five steps) if there is a squirrel in the vicinity. Our German shepherd is very jealous and looks ridiculous when she tries to do the same. He can almost do a back bend which is pretty incredible (and quite something to see) and loves to stick his head straight up in the air which always makes us smile. I will admit that his leash walking needs work although it has improved. His enthusiasm when we walk past people or other dogs makes it hard for him to listen and if there is a squirrel involved forget it! His improvement does lead me to believe that with time and patience he can be trained to walk like a civilized canine. He LOVES food. We bought him a maze feeding dish because he inhales his food and eagerly looks forward to every breakfast and dinner. He knows he has to sit before you put his dish down so he starts sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor and sits-walks-sits-scoots his way to his dish. If you have a treat, he will go through every trick he knows hoping to land on the right one. So far, he can sit, lie down and high five, although it is hit or miss as to which one he will perform with any command. His antics will keep you laughing. We don’t have kids but there is no doubt in my mind that he would make a wonderful family dog. We do have a couple of dog-hating cats in our household that love to assert their authority. They trained him immediately and he only looks longingly at them. I have caught him in a hopeful downward dog as they approach trying to worm his way into their affections as well. I keep trying to tell him that it will never happen, but he is an optimist and keeps trying. If you would like to make this guy a special part of your family please follow the link below to our adoption application. Rescue vet Transport travels to the north east each and every weekend. Transport is an additional $165. https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9
