Trixie is a tiny, terrific lady! She seems like she was "raised right," as noted by her friends at ACCT. She's a polite gal who knows sit and take treats so nicely in return. The shelter is no place for a sweet girl like this! Trixie came to ACCT as a stray on 2/7. Her finder noted that she was friendly, cuddly, shy, quiet, playful, very good, and well-behaved on leash. When Trixie arrived at ACCT, she was noted to be very fearful and stressed. She is slowly coming out of her shell but needs a quiet, loving home to fully blossom and show her true colors. Trixie has made many friends at ACCT who say she is a sweetheart. Trixie can be reactive on leash with other dogs and may become overstimulated, struggling to calm herself down in such situations. She could potentially do well with another playful dog, but any adopter would need to bring their dog and be aware of Trixie's high energy and likely limited experience with other dogs. It's evident that the shelter environment is causing significant stress for Trixie, and she would likely benefit from being placed in a calm environment. Due to Trixie's length of stay, she is timestamped and is looking for a rescue, foster, or loving home that can take her on long walks, give plenty of cuddles, and show her much love! She pulled mildly on leash initially and then she met Ravioli for a dog meet. Trixie was very interested in Ravioli and re-engaged several times w/ a high wagging tail and loose body language. Following the meet, Trixie took a walk and was straight and steady. Pulling was minimal. Trixie took treats nicely. She sat for treats several times. Did not exhibit knowledge of paw or shake command. Trixie calmly walked back inside w/no issues on kennel return. Very impressed w/her. What a well behaved, personable dog! Per Staff 2/22/24: Trixie was good when getting her out of the kennel but a bit excited to get out. During an outdoor interaction, we introduced her to Bean with a barrier between them. They initially interacted well, even engaging in playful behavior, but when we attempted a walk together, both dogs began barking and Bean air-snapped at Trixie. Despite our efforts, the situation did not de-escalate, so Bean was returned to the kennel. While waiting outside, Trixie was very high energy and could not calm herself. She was jumping towards my face, mouth closed. When I tried to get her down, she would jump back up, ripping my PPE gown in the process. I was able to calm her down with a soft voice and pets, and she went back to walking. Later, when the other handler returned with another dog, Aaron, we again initiated a meeting with a barrier, and both dogs behaved well initially. However, once Aaron approached, Trixie became highly energetic again, jumping toward him and refusing to calm down. During the walk, she panted, whined, and pulled continuously. We eventually ended the interaction. Upon returning indoors, Trixie remained hyperactive, again jumping toward my face and panting. However, she responded well to calm verbal reassurance, allowing me to clip her leash and return her to her kennel without difficulty. On 2/22 Greeted at the kennel door, soliciting attention, soft and gentle gaze, wagging, barking at other dogs but easily distracted. Level 1-2/5 Fear Anxiety. Continued on Gabapentin. Per Staff 2/16/24: Pulled her out for a meet in the covered run and this girl had the most FUN and POLITE zoomies. Loved just running carrying her leash - would jump up at people but disengage as soon as the person said no. Did well with adopters teenage son. Did play with her leash, when it was dragging with her, but did not try to leash bite or engage in tug when I went to grab it and walk her out. Also did not engage with a dog in the iso run - she would watch for a bit with forward ears and mid tail, but would disengage when the dog showed no interest. On 2/12 Trixie came down with an upper respiratory infection and was started on Doxycycline. On 2/12 Trixie was hesitant in the back of the kennel, panting. Level 2-3/5 fear anxiety. Was started on Gabapentin for her fear anxiety. Per Staff 2/11/24: Had her out for a meet and greet - she was a little tense and had her tail tucked for the first few minutes, but was curious about the room and sniffed around. After a few minutes she became more loose and came out of her shell, jumping onto the bench and asking for butt scratches. Some stressed panting/lip licking/yawning. At one point the adopter was on the ground and playing with her and she escalated a bit too much, but she immediately disengaged and calmed down when I picked up the leash. Per Volunteer 2/10/24: Trixie was such a sweet lady today! She started out super shy. She allowed leashing but her tail was tucked and she was shaking, she remained this way for the first 5 minutes that we were outside. I fed her a bunch of treats during this time and after a bit she was SO affectionate!! Really loves treats and took them very gently. She showed that she knows sit. No issues returning to kennel and walked nicely Per Staff 2/8/24: Easy to leash. Trixie was sitting at the front of kennel and was standing patiently. She had soft eyes and seemed a bit nervous but allowed the handler to slip the leash over her head easily and exited without issue. Pulls minimally on the leash. Neutral/ Allows all handling. Trixie wandered around the room with neutral body language and soft eyes. She was a bit timid but never tense with us. She sniffed around and then came back over to us soliciting attention. She gave some mid level wags and leaned in while we pet her, especially loving booty scratches. However she did not seek out attention often and was content to wander around doing her own thing. No interest in play or toys. Per Staff 2/8/24: Trixie wandered around the room with neutral body language and soft eyes. She was a bit timid but never tense with us. On 2/7 during Trixie's intake exam she was noted to have mild tartar, eyes were red, but otherwise appears to be in good health. She was noted to be bright, alert, responsive but fearful. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.
