Maddox is a handsome 4-years old neutered male at the shelter, hoping for his great escape! Found as a stray, he's described by his finders as friendly and quiet. They sheltered him for a few days, noting his excellent behavior and compatibility with other animals. During an introduction with another dog, Wiley, Maddox showed enthusiasm with face kisses and a friendly demeanor. However, he can easily get distracted. At one point, Wiley had to correct Maddox due to Maddox being a bit too pushy, which he took well. After some playtime, Wiley was returned to the kennel, and Maddox, with his keen interest in toys, explored the room. Later, he returned to his kennel without any issues Per Volunteer 12/22: Took Maddox out today and he was such a polite and well mannered boy! He knows sit and has done it multiple times. Very polite with leashing and walking. He didn't seek out handling but when I was feeding him treats I'd give him a little neck scratch or back scratch and he accepted it. Previous notes said he could be snatchy with treats but he took them so gently from me! I hope someone grabs this very handsome boy! Per Staff 12/19: Maddox was sleeping soundly when I approached, curled up in his kennel bed. I opened the door and he stretched and came right up to the front, allowing me to lean in and leash him without issue. Exited without issue. Returned without issue. Pulls Minimally On Leash. Loose/Allows all handling. Maddox sniffed around the eval room excitedly, happy to do his own thing. He approached me with mid level wags and allowed all over handling staying loose and wiggly. He enjoys standing on you and getting pets, he's an affectionate boy. He is pretty itchy and wasn't holding his attention for long due to this. He did direct his attention to treats and sat for them, but can be quite snatchy. He also can nip -he'll sometimes just jump on you and nip your fingers. Per Staff 12/18: Approached the kennel twice, he sat on the bed each time looking at me with soft but concerned eyes and a furrowed brow. He looked confused and unsure. I tossed in some hot dogs which he sniffed at but didn't eat in front of me. I tried to get him excited by saying "want to go for a walk" and showing him the leash, but this time he remained on the bed, clearly saying "no thanks" with his lack of forward movement. Medical notes: On 12/28 Maddox was noted Mod- severe generalized erythema, alopecia and lichenification on distal limbs. mild wear and staining dentition. Maddox has a mild URI. Mod pyoderma- improved but persists. Vomited during exam, noted not to be eating well. On 12/19, Maddox was noted to have severe erythema, alopecia, lichenification, and crusts/abrasions. Skin scrape results were negative, with a consideration for demodicosis vs. flea allergy dermatitis vs. sarcoptic mange vs. atopic dermatitis vs. food allergy vs. other. The skin scrape was reported as negative during intake. There is severe generalized erythema, alopecia, and lichenification on distal limbs, as well as excoriations/crusts and abrasions on the face and legs. Additionally, there is seborrhea, and Maddox is actively pruritic. Scleral injection OU, nares, eyes, and ears clean and clear with no discharge.
