Mona von Moxa is a beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd. We first heard of her when we were contacted by the Fresno Humane Society. She and her companion Leonardo were a special case. They had been living on their own in a drainage ditch in old dog houses someone had dumped when they were abandoned. They were so terrified at the animal shelter, they were soon out of time. We jumped at the chance to help them, but we really didn’t realize how hard their lives had been. Leonardo did better, he must have had a home at some time. He has been in a long time foster, he is ready to be someone’s new family member. Mona was just returned after a few days, her second failed attempt at a home. She was younger when she was abandoned and it has been so hard for her. She is getting discouraged. We need to find someone very patient who can provide her an alternative to being inside the house and slowly getting her to the point that she will want to come inside. Think in terms for trying to domesticate a sweet deer. It will take time, love and patience! Could you be the one who answers Mona’s dream of life out of a kennel? IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Mona von Moxa YOU MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mona von Moxa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
