Name: Ruxin Age: 6 years Ruxin has a long history with SPR. He came to us via AAWL in March of last year and, after a bit, made his way into an adoptive home. Once he bonded to his family, he got overly protective and snapped at a neighbor. He was returned to SPR and adopted out again. Sadly, the same thing happened again. Ruxin went to training and learned a bunch of new skills. Because Ruxin hadn't bonded to the trainer, it was difficult for him to work on that protectiveness issue. But the trainer said because he was already 6 years (maybe a bit older) this behavior would be very hard to correct. Not ready to give up on the old boy, one of our volunteers and former adopters decided to foster Ruxin in their home. He joined a household of 5 other dogs. Adjusting to his new lifestyle took a bit. Ruxin can be alpha and challenged the other alpha male in his foster home. Lesson one was to show Ruxin how to integrate and become a pack member. Because he is a ball hound and had shown possible reactivity to other dogs, he had only been adopted out to homes without other dogs. Also, seeing he could be edgy, he was started on an inexpensive, generic anti-anxiety medication. Almost instantly, his fosters saw a difference. He has been in his foster home for several months and is doing great! He allows strangers in with proper introductions and has been exposed to young children and strange dogs. He is ready for his forever home, but would likely be best placed in a home with other dogs where he can be part of the pack and not feel he has to be the one and only protector. We feel he would do best with a female packmate. Ruxin is drop-dead handsome, rides great in a car, is a very obedient dog who walks well on a leash, and is affectionate. He loves playing ball and does very well around kids. Because he has a strong personality and will test his boundaries, he would do best with an experienced GSD owner who will maintain structure and not let him get away with being bossy. Despite all of this, he is not high maintenance and is very laid-back. If you are interested in meeting Ruxin, please go online as we will only schedule a meet and greet with approved adopters. You can apply on our website at http://www.savingpawsrescueaz.org/adoption-form/ We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. We are an all-volunteer organization. It may take a couple of days to process an application and complete reference checks. Thank you for your interest in saving the life of a dog.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ruxin, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
