My story

Kyra is a beautiful Shepherd/Husky mix who is finally getting the opportunity to learn what it feels like to be safe, cared for and loved. She came into rescue as an owner surrender when her previous family was moving to the United States. Her situation was urgent, as she was at risk of losing her life if rescue could not take her in. Sadly, it soon became apparent that Kyra had experienced more than anyone initially knew. A few days after arriving, her foster noticed that something didn't look right with her left eye. A veterinary examination determined that she had experienced blunt-force trauma to the left side of her face, which had caused bleeding and inflammation in her eye. She was prescribed anti-inflammatory eye drops to help with her recovery. Kyra also arrived emaciated and had reportedly not received veterinary care since being vaccinated as a puppy. Since coming into care, she has already gained some much-needed weight and is thoroughly enjoying having regular meals and treats. Despite everything she has experienced, Kyra is a lovely, affectionate girl. She enjoys being loved on, playing ball and having a good sleep. She is comfortable being handled and touched and has settled very well into her kennel. She has never had an accident in her kennel and will let you know when she needs to go outside, although she is still considered partially house trained. Kyra does well with women and children but is currently very shy around men. With other dogs, compatibility will depend on the individual dog. She has shown curiosity toward other dogs in her foster environment, approaching both Scooby's kennel and a small Chihuahua's kennel to sniff and investigate. She has not yet been tested with cats. She is medium energy, rides well in the car and is making progress with her leash skills. A home with a yard would be best for Kyra, while apartment living would not be suitable because she can be vocal. More than anything, Kyra needs patience, gentle guidance, consistency and a safe place to land. Her foster home may be the first place she has truly felt safe, and she deserves a family willing to give her the time she needs to build trust and settle in at her own pace. In return, they will get a sweet, affectionate girl who is finally getting the chance to discover what being part of a loving family is all about.
