My story

Hi, I'm Tortilla. The Bunny-Eared Frenchie Who Refuses to Be Ordinary. I’m eight months old, weigh about 18 pounds, and before we go any further, yes… the ears are real. I know they're the first thing everyone notices, and honestly, I get it. They have a personality all their own. Some people say I look like a bunny, others think I have satellite dishes attached to my head, and Foster Mom swears I can probably hear a treat bag open from three counties away. Whatever the explanation is, they've become part of my charm, and I wear them proudly. A Fresh Start Looks Pretty Good on Me My story didn't start out nearly as cute as my ears. I came to Freedom Frenchie Rescue from the Arizona Humane Society alongside another little dog who could practically be my twin. When I arrived, I was in rough shape. Mange had left me with very little fur, and life hadn't exactly been kind to me yet. But rescue has a funny way of changing everything. Today, my skin has completely healed, my beautiful coat has grown back, I've been spayed, fully vetted, and I'm healthier than I've ever been. It's amazing what good food, great medical care, and people who believe in you can do. About These Eyes... You may notice I have two cherry eyes, and yes, they're part of my story too. Most of the time they tuck themselves back where they belong, but when I get really excited or I'm running around playing, they like to make a surprise appearance. My veterinarians have determined that surgery would simply be cosmetic at this point, and Freedom Frenchie Rescue made the decision to save those medical funds for dogs whose lives depend on them. The way I see it, if you're looking for perfection, you'll probably miss out on someone pretty extraordinary. The people meant for me won't see flaws. They'll see a happy little dog who doesn't let something unique define her. Professional Playtime Coordinator I'm still a puppy, which means I approach every single day with the enthusiasm of someone who just discovered life is the greatest thing ever. If another dog wants to wrestle, I'm in. If there's a toy nearby, I'm already carrying it. If someone starts running, I'll gladly assume we're all participating in zoomies together. I absolutely adore my canine friends and genuinely enjoy being around people just as much. Chews are wonderful, meals disappear in record time, and every day is another opportunity to figure out what adventure comes next. I'm also doggy-door trained, have been doing wonderfully with potty training, and I've gotten really good about letting Foster Mom know when I need to head outside. I'm a smart little girl who truly wants to do the right thing. Life Skills Are Still a Work in Progress Every puppy has a few things they're still learning, and I'm no exception. At night, I sleep peacefully in my crate like a perfect little angel. During the day, however, I have some very strong opinions about being crated while everyone else continues living their lives without me. Foster Mom insists that learning patience is an important life skill. I remain unconvinced, although she tells me I'm making progress every week. I'm also working on remembering that launching all eighteen pounds of myself directly into people's arms isn't technically considered polite greetings. Personally, I think enthusiastic hugs should always be encouraged, but apparently there are "manners" involved. One Tiny Problem... The Vacuum Exists I'd like to formally report the vacuum cleaner. It is suspicious. It is loud. It rolls around the house acting like it owns the place, and someone clearly needs to put it in its place. Naturally, I've accepted that responsibility. Every time it appears, I make it very clear that I do not approve of its presence. Foster Mom has responded by putting me in another room whenever she vacuums, claiming it's easier than negotiating our ongoing disagreement. I'm still pretty sure I'm winning. Learning That the World Is a Safe Place I ride beautifully in the car and enjoy being with my people wherever they go. Sometimes brand-new places or unfamiliar situations can make me a little nervous. I'm still young, and I'm learning that the world is much bigger than I ever knew. With patience, encouragement, and continued socialization, my confidence continues to grow. I simply need a family that understands that courage isn't something you're born with—it's something you build one positive experience at a time. Could You Be My Forever Family? Everyone who meets me remembers the ears first. But the people who really know me remember something much more important. They remember the little puppy who fought her way back from neglect without losing her joyful spirit. The goofy girl who can make an entire room laugh without even trying. The playful best friend who loves other dogs, adores her people, and wakes up every morning convinced it's going to be the best day yet. I'm finally healthy enough to leave my past behind and start the life I've always deserved. Now I'm just looking for the family that's ready to start it with me.
