My story

Mamba's story is one of survival, resilience, and second chances. Her journey began at a local horse stable in Mexico, where she was struggling to survive on her own. Severely malnourished, weak, and desperately searching for food each day, Mamba had already endured more hardship than any dog should have to face. Thankfully, someone saw her and stepped in to give her the chance she so desperately needed. With proper food, medical care, and lots of love, Mamba slowly began to regain her strength. Her body healed, and her joyful personality started to shine through. Then, just when life seemed to be getting brighter, Mamba suffered another heartbreaking setback. While playing with other dogs, an unfortunate accident caused a severe injury to one of her eyes. Despite every effort to save it, her eye could not be preserved and ultimately had to be surgically removed. But Mamba? She didn't let that stop her. Today, she proudly wears her adorable "pirate girl" look and takes on the world with the same enthusiasm as ever. Losing an eye hasn't changed her ability to run, play, explore, or enjoy life. If anything, Mamba seems determined to show everyone that sometimes the strongest hearts belong to those who have been through the most. Mamba is a compact girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She absolutely adores her people and forms deep bonds with those she trusts. If you sit down, don't be surprised if Mamba decides that's her invitation to come over, lean against you, and soak up some affection. Being close to her family is one of her favorite things in the world. She is also a high-energy girl who loves having something to do. Long walks, play sessions, exploring new places, chasing balls, tug-of-war, and durable chew toys are all right up her alley. She thrives when she can use both her body and her clever mind. And once Mamba has had her exercise and enrichment? She becomes a wonderful house companion. After a fun day of adventures, Mamba is happy to settle down beside her people and relax. She loves being included in the family's daily routine and is happiest when she knows she is part of the team. With structure, consistency, exercise, and plenty of affection, Mamba has all the makings of an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Mamba would do best with an active family who understands energetic dogs and is committed to providing her with daily exercise, mental stimulation, and continued guidance. She could happily be your one-and-only, or she may enjoy living with a compatible male dog of similar size and confidence. What Mamba needs most is someone who will look beyond the eye she lost and see the incredible dog she has become. She's affectionate, playful, loyal, adventurous, and wonderfully resilient - and she is ready for the forever family she has been waiting for. If you're looking for an adventure buddy who will happily walk beside you, play with you, lean against you for affection, and then curl up and relax when the day is done, Mamba might just be your perfect match. Medical Notes: had to have eye surgically removed after injury Good with women: yes Good with men: yes Good with kids: yes, Mamba has lived around children and can do well in a family environment. Because she is a strong, enthusiastic dog who sometimes doesn't realize her own size and strength, she would do best with respectful children at least 8+ years old who understand how to interact appropriately with dogs. Adult supervision is always recommended, especially with younger kids. Good with other dogs: yes, Mamba enjoys the company of other dogs but tends to have a confident and dominant personality. She is generally happiest with male dogs that are at least her size or larger and are comfortable with her energetic play style. Because she plays rough and can be quite intense, proper introductions are important, since she can be a little defensive at first. She is not the type of dog who enjoys being constantly corrected by another dominant dog, so thoughtful matches are key to her success. Good with cats: unknown House trained: in progress and doing well Crate trained: in progress Energy hevel: high, Mamba is athletic, strong, and full of enthusiasm. She would love an active family that enjoys walks, hikes, or outdoor activities and is committed to keeping both her body and mind engaged. Can be handled/touched: yes Barker: low, Mamba is not known for excessive barking, but she will happily let you know when she's excited or ready for an adventure Flight risk: no, but extra caution should always be taken in the beginning Food aggressive: none observed. However, as with any newly adopted dog, we always recommend feeding dogs separately and supervising high-value items such as treats, chews, and favorite toys around other dogs, especially during the first few weeks. Allowing time to decompress and adjust to their new environment helps set everyone up for success and prevents unnecessary conflicts while routines and relationships are being established. Walks on leash: yes, Mamba is a powerful dog and would benefit from an experienced handler who continues reinforcing good leash manners using positive training methods Leash reactive to people or dogs: no Rides well in car: yes, but Mamba can become motion sick during car rides, especially on longer trips. We recommend limiting food right before traveling, ensuring good ventilation, and helping her build positive associations with the car through short, enjoyable rides. Many dogs improve with time and practice as they become more comfortable traveling. Destructive: no Needs a home with a yard: yes Needs a home with another dog: no Can live in an apartment: no Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.
