My story

Joanie and her littermates were born and raised in a small, remote Northern community and have spent most of their time outside in the company of other dogs rather than interacting with people. As a result, they are friendly but shy, particularly around men because of a male visitor who would scare and chase them outside if they were in the house. The children in the home are 8 and 10 years old, but they remain shy around them as they have little interaction with them. If there are children in the home, calm older children would be best. Despite a lack of socialization, there is not an aggressive bone in their bodies. They simply need time to learn that people can be trusted and that the world is a safe place. They are very food motivated and, once offered some treats and given a little time, will approach and interact with people. Their confidence will grow with patience and positive experiences. Because they have been raised in a quiet, remote environment, a peaceful suburban or rural home would be ideal. The noise, traffic, crowds and constant activity of a busy city could be overwhelming for them. A friendly, confident and well-socialized dog in the home would be a wonderful benefit, as they have always looked to each other for companionship and would likely learn a great deal by following the example of a confident canine friend. They will need adopters with a gentle hand, a kind heart and, most importantly, patience. They aren't puppies who should be rushed or expected to immediately feel comfortable in a new environment. They need someone willing to give them the time and space to decompress, build trust and discover what it feels like to be safe, loved and truly part of a family. With that patience and understanding, they have every opportunity to blossom into wonderful companions.
