My story

Meet Clyde A Big-Hearted Husky Looking for His Right MatchClyde is a handsome, affectionate Siberian Husky/Malamute mix whose life has changed a lot in a short period of time. Adopted in 2021 with a canine companion, Clyde unexpectedly lost his fur-friend this past December. Shortly after, major changes in his human family followed. For a husky, Clyde is relatively calm and medium energy. Hes content with a daily 3040 minute walk, outdoor play, and short training sessionsespecially if treats are involved (hes very food-motivated and eager to learn!). He knows sit, down, leave it, and has fair recall unless a squirrel or bunny steals his attention. He is a smart boy and catches onto a routine quickly!Clyde enjoys car rides, walks, short jogs, and hikesand especially loves sticking his head out the window to feel the breeze. He generally walks well on leash/harness and responds nicely to gentle corrections and verbal cues.At home, Clyde is affectionate and loves to be near his peoplecurling up at your feet while you work, read, or relax. Hes also comfortable settling on his own and enjoys quiet time in his crate or napping nearby.Clyde is fully house-trained and crate-trained and can comfortably go long periods without accidents. He settles well when left alone and has shown minimal destructive behavior. i.e. loves to find toilet paper rolls and shred them.Because of his size (approximately 83 lbs) and occasional jumping when overstimulated, a home without small children is recommended. Older children or teens who are comfortable with large dogs could be a great fit.Clyde would do best with experienced husky or northern-breed adopters who understand the importance of calm leadership, consistent training, and proper introductions. A gently active home would suit him well. He is accustomed to having people around during the day and would love a work-from-home environment, though this is not essential if his days are structured and fulfilling.Clyde is a loving, cuddly, loyal boy who has been through a lot of change and is looking for the right home to help him feel secure again. With patience, experience, and consistency, he will make a deeply devoted companion. Neck size (for collar): LargeCrate size recommended: L-XLGood with adults: YesGood with kids: Yes, teens recommended as he can jump when excitedGood with other dogs: Hes a bit of a selective socialite! He prefers to hand-pick his inner circle, so hed do best with a slow introduction to ensure he's found the perfect match for his personality.Good with cats: NoHouse trained: YesCrate trained: YesEnergy level: Medium, he requires daily activity but not the 1-2 hour runs that most huskies requireCan be handled/touched: Yes, once he feels settled and comfortable with his people, he absolutely loves affection. Whether its big hugs or just lounging together on the couch, hes happiest when hes right by your side.Barker: Yes, out of anxiety in spurtsFlight risk: Yes, he can dig & jump Food aggressive: NoWalks on leash: Yes, using a harness with a front clasp works best for himLeash reactive to people or dogs: When he's out on adventures, he can get a little extra vocal or excited when he sees other pups! Hell need a patient leader who can help him stay focused and calm while passing new friends on the sidewalk.Rides well in car: Yes, loves it!Destructive: No, only to toilet paper rollsNeeds a home with a yard: YesNeeds a home with another dog: No, while hes currently solo, hed likely love a canine companion again if introduced slowly. Since losing his "sidekick"the protective one of the pairhes been a bit anxious when meeting new people at the door or seeing dogs on walks. He's learning that his humans have his back now, but a confident four-legged friend could be just what he needs to regain his groove. Can live in an apartment: Possibly, with lots of activity Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Clyde (20210715-05), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
