My story

ALL ABOUT ME Name: Chess Age: 8 years old Gender: Male (Neutered) Breed: Retriever Mix Colour: Black with white spots Weight: 21kg / 46lbs Microchipped, Fully Vaccinated, Dewormed   MY RESCUE STORY  I was rescued in July 2025 from an animal hoarding case — one of 16 dogs saved. Despite a hard start, I’m full of life and ready to spend my golden years with a family who’ll cherish me.   MY HEALTH  Fully vaccinated (5-round series complete) I have early-stage cataracts in both eyes due to my senior age, but I can still see just fine.   MY PERSONALITY  I’m affectionate, gentle, and still have a playful spirit. I bond easily with people, love belly rubs, and feel most at ease with a calm dog sibling by my side. My best friend is Jjokko — I’d love to have a buddy like him in my forever home!   SOCIAL SKILLS  • With People: I get along wonderfully with people! I love meeting new faces and soaking up all the affection and pets I can get. You can pick me up easily, and once I trust you, I’ll even roll over to show you my belly—it’s my way of saying I adore you! • With Dogs: I’m friendly with dogs too! I enjoy greeting new friends and making connections, usually getting along best with dogs my size or smaller. Super high-energy dogs can be a bit overwhelming for me, especially as a senior. I really rely on my friend Jjokko at the care facility, so I’d do best in a home with another calm dog sibling. Even if another dog is pushy, I prefer to keep the peace and simply walk away from the drama. • With Cats: My experience with cats is limited, so I’m not exactly sure how I’ll react.   ENERGY & HABITS  • Moderate energy: love walks + chill hangouts • Walk well on leash, responsive to handler • Potty trained (prefer outdoor potty) • Quiet indoors, rarely bark • No guarding with humans; mild food sensitivity around dogs • Crate trained, good in car   MY IDEAL HOME  I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me grow and become the best version of myself. I’ll thrive in a home with: • A family that offers a fun, structured, and safe environment. • A family that enjoys indoor & outdoor activities and spending quality time together. • A family that understands my love for food and can be sensitive with it when other dogs are nearby. I will need continued guidance and management so I learn to be more patient with other dogs. • A family that will love & cherish me throughout my senior years. • Ideally with another dog sibling, but not an absolute requirement.    SPECIAL NOTES  I’m considered a level 1 rescue dog, which means I adjust quickly and adapt to new environments with ease. I seem to have plenty of experience being out and about, as I do well even in busy, high-traffic areas like dog-friendly malls. I also love food, which makes me eager to learn and very trainable!   Chess' YouTube Playlist ##2567829##
