My story

Reese is a large-breed mix who came to the shelter skin and bones, unsure of the world. He can be nervous when meeting new people — especially tall people — but offer him a treat and he becomes your instant best friend!Reese is learning new skills every day, but he’ll need a patient home to help him realise the world isn’t so scary. Because of his past, he can be a bit grabby with food and does have some separation anxiety, but with a steady routine and an owner who will advocate for him, he’s expected to thrive. If you’re looking to make a real difference for a dog with a huge heart, Reese is ready to meet you.IN-SHELTER NOTES & IDEAL HOMESIZE:48 lbs and still filling out to ideal weight!HOME TYPE:House - No shared walls due to vocal behaviour when left alone.CHILDREN:Yes- Teenaged that are calm and respectful.CATS & SMALL ANIMALS:Yes- Cats potentially compatible with slow proper introduction.OTHER DOGS:Yes- Dogs potentially compatibleACTIVITY/ENERGY LEVEL:Mod - High; will need a lot of daily exercise, enrichment and mental stimulation.HUMAN COMPATIBILTY:First time dog owner possible.TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/NEEDS:At least three in-person training sessions to work on socialization, basic training, stranger reactivity, pushy behaviours for food and manners.HUMAN SOCIAL IN SHELTER:Very human social. Reese is very sweet and loves people once he gets to know them! He can be jumpy and mouthy when he wants attention but he is just one big puppy!FAVOURITE THINGS:Loves anything that involves food! Yes, that does mean training too!**For more information on any behaviours stated above, please check out our behaviour fact sheet: https://kwsphumane.ca/BehavioursandDefinitions**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.If you are viewing this through 24PetConnect by PetPlace or Adopt-A-Pet, please visit our website https://kwsphumane.ca/adopt/process to submit an application. Any applications submitted outside of www.kwsphumane.ca may not be received.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Reese - Stratford, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
