My story

Meet Ernesto – the staffie-malinois mix. This 8 week old cutie is looking for an adoptive home that will help him grow in confidence. Prior to his arrival at the Shelter, Ernesto was not around new people, environments or other animals. Upon his arrival, things were QUITE spooky for he and his littermates. Staff and volunteers have been engaging in play, snuggles and lots of positive experiences to help Ernesto and the crew feel less scared about the world around them. Due to these puppies ruff beginnings, dog savvy homes are recommended to get them started off on the right paw. A resident dog who is confident and playful may be a great role model for one of these pups. If you have the patience, time and sense of humor to take in one of these young whippersnappers – come on down to the Shelter to meet them today!Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
