My story

Meet Rivian, a 1-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix weighing about 58 pounds. According to his Wisdom Panel DNA, he’s 42% Catahoula, 19% Miniature American Shepherd, 13% Plott Hound, and a bunch of other breeds—which makes perfect sense once you see his energy and intelligence. He’s a loyal, loving boy with a powerful bark and an even bigger heart. Rivian is a social butterfly with other dogs and loves to play—he would happily spend all day wrestling and romping with canine friends. He does best when new dogs are introduced into his environment, and he enjoys the comfort of familiar surroundings. He’s good with children, though his enthusiasm can sometimes be a bit much for smaller kids. When it comes to manners, Rivian is a gentleman. He’s house trained and knows to sit and wait patiently at mealtimes—often holding off even longer if someone forgets to give him his signature pre-dinner high five. He knows some tricks, enjoys a good bone to chew on, and will follow his people around the house like a loyal shadow. Due to his high energy and need for stimulation, Rivian currently spends time in his crate when unsupervised. While he tolerates it, it's not his favorite place—he can get bored and will look for ways to escape if left too long.  Rivian is looking for an experienced, active home with lots of structure, enrichment, and exercise. He’d love a dog friend to play with and a fenced yard to explore. In the right environment, with a family that can channel his energy and continue his training, Rivian will reward you with endless loyalty, joyful companionship, and a lifetime of love. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
