My story

Named for the road where she was left running at large for over a month, this sweet girl was finally trapped by a very kind person who had been worrying about her journey while she was darting through traffic and scrounging for food. We do not really know how Neelley appeared in the area where she was found - maybe dumped or perhaps she escaped - but what we do know is that no one claimed this sweet girl. So a lot about Neelley is a mystery - her breed mix, her age or even her time prior to rescue. But we can tell you our best guesses and tell you what we have learned about her since she landed in the arms of our rescue. Neelley is perhaps a chi-wee-gle (chihuahua, dachshund, beagle mix) that is around 3-4 years old. When she first came into her foster home she would shiver when touched, but that quickly melted away when she discovered the love she had been missing out on for so long. Neelley wags with her WHOLE body when her people come home. She even vocalizes her joy when you return! Neelley is working on her housetraining - she will seek out a pee pad if no one is available to let her out to potty - but she still does have some accidents. In her foster home she hangs in the kitchen with the rest of her fur-buddies until her family returns. She will curl up with you and snuggle, sleep in the big bed and generally follow you everywhere you go around your home. When it comes to outside - Neelley will door dash at first (out of fear) and is working on her leash skills (which were completely non-existent when she came into rescue) so a securely fenced yard will be a must for her new home. Neelley lives with several other fur-buddies but it did take her several days to warm up. She would growl if they came near and sometimes still she is not very certain about their intentions so she needs an understanding pack that will not be too pushy. She has warmed up enough to begin to play but even at times she is not sure how to read other dogs. We just do not think that Neelley had a lot of love or affection before she found rescue. But that has certainly all changed now and we are committed to finding her a home that will continue to love her just as much as her foster family -- as we know she still has so much blooming yet to do. Neelley has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and is current on heartworm prevention. Because of her tendency to door dash at first, she will come with her very own GPS collar to wear to keep her whereabouts known just in case. Due to Neelley's shy nature at first, she will not be adopted outside of a 3 hour drive of Greensboro NC (where her foster famiy is located) and her foster family must travel to Greensboro to adopt her. One thing is for certain - whatever family is lucky enough to adopt this girl will be rewarded daily with her affirmation of wagging joy and love! If her adoptive famiy is in Greensboro - she can continue with some of her socialization training at Downtown Dog Enrichment Program. ##2450278##
