My story

Name: Ricky Gender: Male Breed: Mixed Age: 1 year old Weight: Approx. 40–45 lbs Current Location: Leesburg, VA Adoption Fee: $375 About: Ricky Meet Ricky — a gentle soul wrapped in a silky black coat, with ears that seem to hold the secrets of deep friendship. He’s a dog who doesn’t give his heart away to just anyone… but once he does, you’ll understand why people fall hard for him. He’s not flashy. He’s not loud. He’s better than that. Ricky is real — and he’s looking for someone who sees the beauty in slow trust and quiet loyalty. Personality & Companionship: • Ricky is a sweet, sensitive boy who adores his people and loves to be close by for quiet company and gentle affection. • He does best in a peaceful home — the kind with soft voices, kind hands, and a comfy crate to retreat to when the world feels overwhelming. • Low to medium energy, Ricky never jumps up and isn’t one to cause a stir. He’s the opposite of hyper, but always present and aware. • His favorite daily ritual? Collecting his toys and tucking them into his crate — not to guard them, just to feel a little more at home. Social Life: • Ricky gets along beautifully with other dogs — even those with big personalities. He does best with a confident canine companion to help him feel secure. • He’s been completely respectful of cats in his foster home. • Ricky loves older kids, especially his foster’s 9-year-old son. Young children with unpredictable noise or movement may make him nervous, so older or calmer kids are ideal. • He’s not the life of the party — more like the thoughtful guest in the corner who, once you get talking, becomes your favorite. Training & Behavior: • House-trained and crate-trained — and he absolutely loves his crate. It’s his safe zone. • He’s currently working on building confidence in new environments and managing occasional anxiety with the help of a consistent routine. • He’s food motivated, loves treats (especially bacon and pig ears), and is quickly learning the ropes of being a beloved house dog. • Ricky is looking for an adopter who understands that trust takes time — and is willing to let him blossom at his own pace. My Ideal Home Will Offer: • Another confident dog to show me the way and help me continue growing • A fenced-in yard where I can explore safely and play with my dog siblings • A crate where I can retreat when I need space • A quiet, low-chaos environment — I’d prefer the countryside over the city • A patient, kindhearted adopter who sees me for who I am and knows I’m worth the wait ⸻ Veterinary Info: Ricky is up to date on all of his medical care, including: • Health certificate from a licensed veterinarian • Vaccinations appropriate for his age • Neutered • Microchipped • Heartworm preventative • Flea & tick preventative • Deworming/parasite treatments ⸻ If you’re looking for a gentle, discerning companion who will devote his heart to you once the bond is formed — Ricky is ready. Quietly waiting. Eager to belong. And he just might be the best decision you ever make. Apply now to meet Ricky — the dog who loves quietly but deeply.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ricky, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
