My story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 5/14/2025 Reason for being in rescue: Surrendered to a shelter by his owners Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Maverick is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Maverick is a doodle. We will never guarantee that a doodle is hypoallergenic or that they won't shed. Weight: 72 lbs Height: 24 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Not required, but a fenced yard is a great safety feature for a big guy like Maverick. Please note Maverick has never lived without the freedom and safety of a physically fenced yard. If you don't have a physically fenced yard, you need a plan for LOTS of daily exercise as this will be a big adjustment for him. What kind of home would be best for me? Maverick is great with dogs of all sizes, though he admittedly tends to gravitate toward the big ones who can keep up with his linebacker energy. As for humans - He loves them ALL—grown-ups, toddlers, teens, mail carriers—you name it. He thinks children are absolutely amazing, but he’ll need a bit of guidance on how not to enthusiastically launch himself into their arms like an overexcited boulder of fluff. We’re working on it. He’s trying. Due to his size and energy level, Maverick isn’t a fit for apartment or townhome living. He would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard where he can run, play, and burn off energy safely. He’d enjoy romping around with another playful dog or with older children. Because he can be exuberant and strong, we recommend a home with kids aged 8 and up, just to avoid accidental knockdowns during playtime. Despite his size and boundless joy, Maverick is gentle, kind, and truly the definition of a gentle giant. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for an adventure buddy, a snuggle partner, and a family that will let him flop on their feet like a weighted blanket with legs. What is my personality like? Meet Maverick – The Giant Teddy Bear with a Linebacker Build and a Marshmallow Heart. If you’ve ever dreamed of snuggling a dog roughly the size of a small sofa, Maverick is your guy. He’s big. He’s fluffy. He’s got enough love in his giant paws to power a whole neighborhood—and he’s ready to share every ounce of it with YOU. Maverick is what we like to call a "joy enthusiast." Every morning - Best morning ever. Every person he meets - Best person ever. Every walk, every meal, every blade of grass - The greatest thing that's ever happened. He lives large, in size and spirit. He knows “sit”, but with a face like his, you’ll probably give him what he wants before he finishes the motion. Leashes are… a bit of a work in progress. He gets it, he just doesn’t totally understand why walking in a straight line is such a big deal. But he’s eager to learn and very motivated by praise, pets, and snacks. If you’re ready for a life full of laughs, loyalty, and a dog who gives bear hugs with his whole body, Maverick is waiting to meet you. Warning: once you let him into your heart, you'll never get the fur out of your clothes again—but you won’t mind one bit. How do I act when I first meet new people? Maverick is people-friendly, warms up quickly and is eager to bond with you. Other tips and tidbits: Maverick was born on 4/29/2022. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. July 17, 2025, 7:39 am
