My story

KJ Male black DSH Estimated age: 1.5 years KJ is a very sweet guy! He is a cuddlebug who loves head scratches and making biscuits. He is super curious and likes playing with strings. He will follow you around and sleeps with you every night. He was a barn cat who was brought to a spay and neuter clinic to be fixed when one of our fosters who is also a technician met him. Given that he was blind with nonviable eyes, she knew that he needed further care and that being an outside barn cat was not safe for him so Fig and Friends offered to take him. The colony caretaker was thrilled that he'd be going to a rescue and would find a home so said yes. Even though it looked like he did not have any eyes, we knew he would have some ocular structures there because it is very rare for a cat to actually be born without any eyes. Any ocular structures in the sockets are just a source of pain, infection, and discomfort as all of the tissues are exposed and the lashes are constantly rubbing against the delicate tissues. This means that any structures have to be surgically removed, so we scheduled him for surgery. The veterinarian was able to remove KJ's eyes (which were very small like the size of blueberries) and close everything up. We suspect that KJ had phthisis bulbi which is when damage/trauma occurs to the eyes (likely a viral infection when he was a kitten) and causes them to shrink down because they are no longer functional. KJ was likely blind since he was a kitten, so he could care less that he cannot see. He gets around like any other cat and loves to climb up cat trees, sit in front of the windows, and get attention. Location: He is currently at the Happy Cat Cafe. Visit www.happycatgr.com for more information Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age approriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption. If you are interested in adopting, fill out an application online at www.figandfriendspetrescue.org/adopt

If you have any questions or would like to adopt KJ, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
