My story

Meet Lucy!  Our little Lucy Lou is a very very special girl looking for an even more special adopter…. Lucy came to us, along with several other dachshunds and a senior lab mix, during Summer 2024. Each came with their own behavioral quirks due to the situation they came out of, but we quickly learned that Lucy had been the most traumatized by her past.  Some quick facts about our little Lucy girl: *she is not a fan of the camera, hence the limited selection and poor quality pictures. Sometimes you just have to work with what you’ve got *she LOVES food! Mealtime is her favorite time of day! *Lucy loves burrowing into any soft blanket she can find, as any self respecting dachshund should, and kindly requests an ample supply in her new home *She lives for belly rubs! *Lucy is great with other dogs and cats but kindly requests that her 4 legged friends be on the calmer side. She said she’s way past her puppy mentoring days, but she does need to have a dog friend at home with her *Lucy is slow to trust but once she trusts you, she will love you with her whole entire being Now more on that last one…this is where the needing an extra special adopter comes in. What Lucy is actually looking for is a unicorn - someone with dachshund experience and an immense amount of patience. Someone who will pretty much completely ignore her until she feels safe and comfortable. She will also need a fenced yard because until she trusts her new person, leash walking will not be an option. But once she is comfortable, Lucy loves to go on walks! Lucy does need an adult only home and preferably a female only home, although there is a chance she could adjust to a home with a man as long as she has a woman she can bond with  Is there any such unicorn out there? We believe with all of our heart there is! We KNOW Lucy’s special person is out there waiting for her and we GUARANTEE that the amount of love she has to give is more than worth the time and patience needed to gain her trust!  Are you who Lucy has been waiting for? If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lucy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
